- Sodium dodecyl sarcosine (sarkosyl or sarcosyl), also known as sodium lauroyl sarcosine, is an ionic surfactant with amphiphilic properties.
- It contains both a hydrophobic 14-carbon chain (lauryl) and a hydrophilic carboxyl group.
- The nitrogen atom of the amide bond remains neutral without being affected by pH changes.
- Sarkosyl is widely used in experimental research due to its good water solubility, high foam stability, and strong adsorption capacity to proteins.
- As a detergent, sarkosyl can penetrate and lyse cells.
- Unlike Sodium dodecyl sulfat, sodium dodecyl sarcosine can be dissolved in solutions containing guanidin hydrochloride and guanidine isothiocyanate.
- This characteristic makes sarkosyl commonly used in Ekstraksi RNA aplikasi, such as improving the performance of Trizol reagents.
